The Research Council of Norway has allocated funding to 10 applications through Svalbard Science Forum's funding program Svalbard Strategic Grant (SSG).
The Ministry of Education has asked us to reduce the number of applications and to introduce measures that limit the use of resources by applicants and the Research Council. The target is a 25 per cent success rate. We are now introducing two main measures for FRIPRO.
From 2023, the Governor of Svalbard will introduce four fixed application deadlines per year for research activity in Svalbard.
AFG received 109 applications this year. 55 projects to a sum of 4,02 million NOK were completely or partly funded. Again, this year, most of the applications were of high quality.

We allocate funding up to 500 000 NOK for cooperation activities that contribute to increased scientific quality in Svalbard research. The priority of this call is to support network projects and workshops that develop and stimulate existing or establish new scientific cooperation.
AFG received 103 applications, 51 projects to a sum of 3,24 million NOK were completely or partly funded. Again, this year, the majority of the applications were of high quality and there were many good applications who did not get funding.
800.000 NOK to 12 additional AFG projects. The SSF and the RCN wants to make sure that as soon as Svalbard and the rest of the world opens up research will hit the ground running.
