Purpose

Funding is available to establish collaboration between research groups and public/private sector actors with a view to applying for funding under a call for a Collaborative and Knowledge-building Project by the deadline in spring 2022.

The objective of the call is to support pre-projects for future Collaborative and Knowledge-building Projects that can help to resolve or tackle key societal challenges relating to antimicrobial resistance from a One Health perspective.

About the call for proposals

This call is your chance to apply for a pre-project for a Collaborative and Knowledge-building Project relating to antimicrobial resistance from a One Health perspective. In the pre-project, you can carry out various types of preparatory work, activities and measures necessary to develop the project idea, and you can clarify important preconditions that must be met in order for the idea to be realised.

The Norwegian-language call for proposals is the legally binding version.

Who is eligible to apply?

Only approved Norwegian research organisations may apply; see the list of approved research organisations.

Who can participate in the project?

Requirements relating to the Project Owner

The organisation listed as the Project Owner in the grant application must have approved the submission of the grant application to the Research Council.

Requirements relating to project managers

You must have an approved doctorate or equivalent qualifications before the date of the application submission deadline. If you do not have an approved doctorate but are qualified at associate professorship level or have current or previous employment in a position as forsker 1 (research professor), forsker 2 (senior researcher) or seniorforsker (senior researcher), you are also qualified. The roles of project manager and project administrator in the project may not be filled by the same individual.

Requirements relating to partners

The partnership constellation must contribute to ensuring that the project as a whole takes an interdisciplinary and cross-sector approach from a One Health perspective. You should plan for collaboration between the disciplines of public health, animal health, food production and the natural environment in the pre-project.

Already at the pre-project stage, you should prepare to include at least one public sector body or a business that has a clearly defined need relating to the project’s area of research.

Including social players or end users such as the public administration, business and industry, patient organisations and other organisations will strengthen the project’s relevance and benefits.

Main project

In the Collaborative and Knowledge-building Project that the pre-projects are working towards, the project must have at least two Norwegian partners that are not research organisations. We also expect the main project to involve international research collaboration.

In the main call, NOK 15 million from the thematic area Global Health will be earmarked for "equal cooperation with low and lower-middle income countries", and NOK 10 million will be earmarked for cooperation with China and India. The requirement of including two Norwegian partners does not apply for projects funded by these thematic areas.

What can you seek funding for?

Under this call for proposals for pre-projects, research organisations may apply for project establishment funding of up to NOK 200,000 to prepare a main project. In the pre-project, you must map needs and development possibilities as preparation for the main project.

Costs may include seminars/workshops and other measures to build networks and establish collaborations as a basis for a Collaborative and Knowledge-building Project.

You may apply for funding from the Research Council to cover the following costs:

Procurement of R&D services and Equipment are not approved project costs in the pre-project.

Undertakings cannot have their project costs covered through funding from the Research Council, since state aid or de minimis aid cannot be awarded under this call.

Conditions for funding

The Research Council’s funding for research organisations included in the project will go to the organisation’s non-economic activity and does not constitute state aid. The Research Council’s other requirements relating to allocation and disbursement of support for the first year and any pledges and payments for subsequent years, are set out in the General Terms and Conditions for R&D Projects.

There are no requirements for own funding in the pre-project.
