Svalbard Strategic Grant allocations

The Research Council of Norway has allocated funding to five workshops, two projects and two combined projects and workshops through Svalbard Science Forum's funding program Svalbard Strategic Grant (SSG).

The call in December 2019 had up to NOK 4 million for workshops and projects. The main priority of this call was to support network projects and workshops that promote the strategic objectives of Svalbard Science Forum; enhanced coordination and collaborative efforts in research activities and initiation of pilot studies and/or planning of large projects and applications.

The SSF received a total of 12 applications. 9 applications (75%) have been completely or partly funded to a total sum of 3,365 million NOK.

All applications were processed administratively by a panel composed of in-house staff and external experts with experience from Svalbard. The applications were evaluated based on the criteria and priorities in the call. The final funding decision has been made by the administration in the Research Council of Norway (RCN) and the applications with the best grades were funded.
