What is the Health Pilot?

The innovation process must be based on the needs of patients, the population or the public health services, and will provide risk relief for participants at the early stage.

The Health Pilot was launched under Report No 18 to the Storting (2018-2019) ‘The health industry - working together on value creation and better services’ and describes many of the challenges the health industry faces in relation to further growth. The health services also face similar major challenges, and require new innovative solutions to provide better and more sustainable services.

The goal of the Health Pilot is to act as a source of funding and bridge-builder for companies and the health and care services to enable innovative new solutions to address the challenges the services face.

The Research Council, Siva, the regional health trusts and the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS) will jointly manage the funds and use different types of applications and policy instruments to ensure the user interface is perceived as easy to use. There will be one point of entry for applicants, and we will manage the administrative and practical aspects.

The first call for proposals under the Health Pilot will be open to all topics that aim to address clear needs in the health service, but the following two main topics will be given priority:

• The patient at home: New products and services in diagnostics, treatment (including clinical trials) and rehabilitation at home as well as new solutions for digital interaction between patients and the health service, including self-service solutions.
• Sustainable health service: New technological solutions that increase the efficiency of the health service through e.g. better and more efficient decision support, cooperation between services, area utilisation, logistics and use of personnel.
