About the event
Do you have a groundbreaking research idea, but need the expertise of one or more outstanding researchers to potentially solve the scientific challenge? ERC Synergy Grants might be the solution. Join our webinar!
ERC Synergy Grants (SyG) allow two to four outstanding "principal investigators" (PIs) to collaborate on a project for up to six years. Norwegian top researchers show great interest in this grant scheme and have been increasingly successful. The Research Council of Norway will encourage broader participation by hosting a webinar on May 26th. From the ERC Executive Agency, call co-coordinator Giuliano Scalzi will participate with the latest news about the 2026 announcement, and Professor James R. Dawson from NTNU will share his experiences from applying for and receiving a Synergy Grant with the project "Hydrogen under pressure".
With its individual grants, the ERC funds outstanding research leaders with groundbreaking ideas. Sometimes the research challenge is so complex and ambitious that it requires collaboration with other research leaders. This is where Synergy Grants is a solution. SyG is open to all disciplines and is bottom-up, available for researchers at the Starting, Consolidator, and Advanced Grants experience levels. One of the PIs can work at an institution outside the EU member states or associated countries. It is possible to apply for funding up to 10 million euros, plus up to an additional 4 million euros.
The expected deadline for ERC SyG applications is in November 2025 for the 2026 work programme year, and it is planned that the call will be announced in July this year. You can find information about SyG on the ERC's website https://erc.europa.eu/apply-grant/synergy-grant.
Complete information about the call, including the guidance documents and templates, will be published when the call opens. On the ERC's website, you can also find information about other ERC grant types.
The webinar will be held in English and is intended for researchers and EU advisors.
