Support for Events Focused on the Functioning of the Financial Market and Ethical Awareness

This call closes Friday 6 December at 13:00 CET. A similar call will be published during the first quarter of 2025.

Purpose

This call for proposals is to provide support for events that focus on the functioning of financial markets and that will promote greater understanding of relevant ethical issues in this area. Support from the Finance Market Fund is to target spheres of activity relating to the securities market (see Section 7 of the rules set out for the Finance Market Fund – in Norwegian only). Support may also target banking and insurance activity, other areas of the financial market, and accounting and auditing.

Applications must clearly demonstrate that the project is of relevance in relation to the purpose of the Finance Market Fund and that the funding will have a trigger effect. You must also describe the potential ramifications if the funding amount awarded is smaller than what was originally sought.

The fund is designed to help to increase knowledge about how financial markets function and to promote greater understanding of relevant ethical issues in this area.

Funding under the Finance Market Fund is to support research, education or public awareness initiatives related to the functioning and role of the financial market. Projects may address deficiencies in the system, ethics and good business practices in the relevant areas as well as consumer interests. Funding will not be granted for individuals to pursue ordinary occupational education activities.

Please see the rules set out for the Finance Market Fund at www.finansmarkedsfondet.no (in Norwegian only).

About the call for proposals

The event for which funding is being sought may not have started or have already been held when the Board of Directors is processing the application, as support from the Finance Market Fund is to have a trigger effect.

Applications must clearly demonstrate that the project is of relevance in relation to the purpose of the Finance Market Fund. You must also describe the potential ramifications if the funding amount awarded is smaller than what was originally sought.

All information material prepared in connection with the event must clearly state that the event is supported by the Finance Market Fund.

The Norwegian-language call for proposals is the legally binding version.

Who is eligible to apply?

Approved Norwegian research organisations may apply. See the list of approved Norwegian research organisations.

Who can participate in the project?

Requirements relating to the Project Owner
The research organisation listed as the Project Owner in the application form must have authorised the submission of the grant application to the Research Council.

Requirements relating to the project manager
The project manager must be employed by the Project Owner (research organisation) and have an approved doctorate.

What can you seek funding for?

You will find detailed and important information about what to enter in the project budget on our website.

Funding is to be used for planning and carrying out events.

Approved costs in connection with the event are:

  • related to planning and carrying out the event;
  • Costs for hire of a venue, materials, procured services, and travel and accommodation for presenters. Note that travel expenses for ordinary participants will not be covered.

If a participation fee is required, this is to be included in the budget and final accounts. The participation fee may constitute part of own financing.

It is particularly important that grant applications clearly demonstrate that the activity is of relevance to the purpose of the Finance Market Fund and that the funding provided will have a trigger effect.

Conditions for funding

The Finance Market Fund will not award support that constitutes state aid under this call. This means that funding from the Finance Market Fund is only to go to the non-economic activity of the research organisations. We require a clear separation of accounts for the organisation’s economic and non-economic activities. Companies will not be eligible to receive support to cover projects costs and may not receive indirect support through the granting of any rights to project results.

The Finance Market Fund’s requirements relating to allocation and disbursement of support for the first year, and any pledges and payments for subsequent years, are set out in the Research Council’s General Terms and Conditions for R&D Projects.

Reports and disbursement of funding

Half of the grant amount will be normally disbursed when the contract is signed, with the remaining half paid out after the event has been concluded. A final report must be submitted. The final disbursement is contingent on approval of the submitted final report and project account report. Only actual expenses entered in the institution’s accounts will be covered. The final report must include a list of presentations and where they may be found, the number of participants, a summary of achieved objectives and experiences from the event, as well as a copy of the programme.
